So, what's new with you all out there? Here things are settling in to somewhat of a routine for us. We've converted our spare bedroom into a laundry drying room, since it's been raining most of the time. And we're considering moving our mattress in there, and sleeping on the floor of the laundry room, because of the breeze off the ocean its much cooler than the room we are in now... so the first step in our move is to find some nails, so we can hang the mosquito net, then we might start sacking out there. Oh, and the rat is history. Our housekeeper found it drowned in our housemate's toilet. I'm really glad we never saw it (or smelled it even) because she thought it might have been in there a while -- my guess is that we finally managed to feed it enough rat poison that it went in for a drink, and fell in. I can't even tell you how much more relaxed we are though, now that we aren't sharing our pantry anymore
we've both been sending out resumes, answering posting ads, having an interview here and there. the crs fellowship officially turns over late july/early august... and at first we heard that there was a guy coming here to take dan's position, but then we heard that he withdrew from the fellowship program... and then we heard that the fellow that was assigned to zimbabwe is now coming to freetown... so we think that there will be someone here in a few weeks after all. dan's still negotiating on possible next posts -- so once we have something definite to report, we'll let you know. in the meantime, we're taking it one day at a time. things change constantly.
i've been doing some work -- helping with program proposals and grant applications -- and i went on a hike saturday in the pouring rain and ended up talking with someone for a long time about work and my experiences and it turns out he's the head of UNICEF and he asked for my resume... so keep your fingers crossed, you never know what might happen... right now we are enjoying a sun break in between downpours, and i'm off to a meeting with the director of health unlimited. i'll write again soon, i promise. hope all is well where you are!
